Seoul National University announced on May 2nd that it has launched the "National Strategic Business Investment Promotion Committee" (Principal Director Seong Cheol Kim, Head of SNU’s Office of Research Affairs and R&DB Foundation) in order to actively attract and help establish national strategic businesses related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
On May 1st, in the Hoam Faculty House of Seoul National University in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, the promotion committee formed industrial, academic, and governmental consortiums divided into five core research fields and appointed the director of each consortium. The promotion committee announced that it aims to attract investment amounting to 710 billion won.
The consortiums consist of the following: autonomous car (Professor Kyongsu Yi, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), unmanned vehicles (Professor Changdon Kee, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), smart city (Professor Yong Tae Yoon, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), future ocean research (Professor Yonghwan Kim, Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering), and educational cooperation and support (Professor Sun-Geun Baek, Department of Education).
The promotion committee stated, "We are a global, model example of local governments and companies that represent Korea collaborating, with university at its center, to create future food. Through research on topics such as autonomous vehicles, drones, unmanned ships, smart cities, and future schools, we will act as pioneers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
