5G시대에 있어 핵심적인 서비스를 제공하게 될 Connectivity기술의 의미와 scope, 발전 방향에 대해 소개하고, 특히 Wi-Fi와 Bluetooth, GNSS, 그리고 신기술로 관심을 받는 UWB기술 개요에 대한 내용을 다룹니다. 무선통신을 활용하는 이러한 P2P 기기간의 정보공유는 현대사회에 삶의 질을 더욱 향상시키는 근간기술로서, 향후 전자공학기반 서비스의 중추역할을 담당하게 될 것입니다.
Dr. Joonsuk Kim received the B.S. and M.S. (control) of electrical engineering from Seoul National University in 1992 and in 1994, and M.S. (communications) and Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1996 and in 2000, respectively. He is one of core engineers who designed 802.11a/b/g/n chips for Broadcom to be the number one leading company in WLAN market. After working as a Sr. Principal Scientist in Broadcom, he joined Apple as a Sr. Principal Architect and is now with Samsung as Sr. Vice President, leading the Connectivity Team for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS and UWB. He had served as an IEEE senior member, the adhoc chair of IEEE 802.11n and a vice-chair of IEEE 802.11ac task group. His major research interests are in the areas of wireless networks with MIMO techniques, including STBC, BLAST, MU-MIMO, beamforming with/without channel information as well as system-level optimization of wireless networks. He has authored more than 100 technical papers/contributions to IEEE and more than 120 issued patents on these topics.
