“How could Machine Learning / Deep Learning innovate semiconductor design and EDA technologies?” ‒ Current status and future perspectives

Now we are facing the 4th industrial revolution, which is mainly led by AI (Artificial Intelligence). And ML (machine learning) and DL (deep learning) are core technologies to enable coming AI era. ML and DL are applied lots of areas. And ML and DL become a new enabler for the next level evolution of semiconductor design and EDA technologies, too.
In this seminar, we will think about how ML and DL can innovate semiconductor design and EDA technologies according to the following agenda:
Dr. Kyu Myung Choi is a visiting professor at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University since March 2016. Before that, he had worked at Samsung Electronics for 31 years. He had worked as an engineer for the semiconductor design related development work from 1985 to 2004. From 2005, he was the head of the Design Technology team as a vice president, where he developed the design methodologies, PDKs, cell libraries. From 2012, he was the head of the Infrastructure Design Centre as a senior vice president, where he was in charge of the development of design technologies, mixed-signal, and high-speed interface IPs. From 2014, he was the head of the LSI Product and Technology as a senior vice president, where he was in charge of the semiconductor IC product development such as CMOS Image Sensors, Display Driver ICs, Security ICs, and Power Management ICs.
He received B.S. and M.S. in Electronic Engineering from the Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 1983, 1985. He received Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in 1995. He was the author and co-author of more than 30 IEEE conference and journal papers. He served as ISOCC technical chair and general vice chair in 2007 and 2008, respectively and held keynote speeches at ISOCC in 2008 and 2011. Currently, his interesting research areas are “ML and DL for semiconductor design and EDA technologies” and “chip implementation of neural network devices”.
