[Graduate School] Announcement of the 2024 Spring Semester Foreign Language Examination for International Students’ Thesis Submission Qualification (Including Korean)

To pass the foreign language examination, a component of the thesis submission qualifying exam for graduate international students, one of the following three methods can be selected:
 

Ⅰ. Korean Language Exam: Held by the Office of Academic Affairs at Seoul National University every March and September

Ⅱ. Korean Language Course Enrollment: [Korean Language and Culture 1] or [Korean Language and Culture 2]

Ⅲ. Submission of English Proficiency Scores: New TEPS, TOEFL (iBT), 

Ⅰ. Korean Language Exam
See Attachment 1 for details on the Korean Language Exam Implementation Plan and Application form for 2024 Spring


1. Application Form Submission
   a. Submission Period: Monday, February 26, 2024. – Monday, March 4★ Check the dates!!
   b.How to Submit: Fill out and print the application form (refer to the Attachment 1) →Sign it yourself and get your advisor’s signature (or seal) → Submit to the administrative agent at the ECE Department office. (Room 319, Building 301)

2. Korean Language Exam (Written Exam)
   a. Exam Date: Friday, March 22, 2024 9:30 - 10:30 (60 minutes)

※ Please be seated at your designated seat in the exam venue by 9:20 for verification.
      b. Venue: Room B103, Building 39

   3. Important Notes
      a. Bring your student ID or identification card (foreign registration card)
      b. Integrated Master’s and Doctoral program students are eligible to take the doctoral exam

 

Ⅱ. Korean Language Course Enrollment
1. Enroll in a course as a substitute for the thesis submission qulifying exam. However, it does not count towards graduation credits.
2. Course Titles: [Korean Language and Culture 1], [Korean Language and Culture 2].
3. Students achieving a grade of ‘C-‘ or above, or ‘S’, will be exempt from the Korean language exam.

※ Must be completed before the semester of graduation.

Ⅲ. Submission of English Proficiency Scores

See Attachment 2 for detailed information on the Standard Scores required for the English Subject of the Thesis Submission Qualifying Exam

1. International students whose native language, official language, or working language is not English must submit their English test score reports to the administrative agent at the ECE Dept. Office (Room 319, Building 301)

★ Note: The English test score report must be valid (issued within the past 2 years).
2. English Test Score Report Submission Period: Monday, February 26, 2024 – Monday, March 4 ★ Check the dates!!
3. Standard Scores: Refer to the Attachment 2

   a. New TEPS: 327 points or higher
    b. TOEFL(iBT): 86 points or higher for students admitted until 2022 /96 points or higher for students admitted from 2023 onwards
4. International students whose native language, official language, or working language is English can opt for the Korean exam or Korean language course enrollment.
