[Participants of the 6th Medical Device Forum for Medical Schools, College of Engineering and Seoul National University Hospital]

SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kook Heon Char), along with SNU Medical School (Dean Shin Chan Soo) and SNU Hospital (President Chang Suk Suh), hosted the ‘6th Medical Device Forum for Medical Schools, College of Engineering and Seoul National University Hospital’. The ceremony was held at 1:30 pm on November 2nd at the SNU Faculty Club Fourth Conference Room.

Rarely do college of engineering, medical schools, and hospitals periodically gather for a ceremony in Korea. The object of this forum is to introduce technologies needed by the medical school and the hospital and to invigorate mutually constructive collaborative research by merging engineering technologies and medicine.

Starting with a special lecture from a medical device entrepreneur (PCL, CEO Soyeon Kim), there were presentations by speakers from SNU Medical School and Hospital including: ‘Software for HLA allele prediction’(Professor Buhm Han of SNU Department of Medicine), ‘Implementation of mixed reality in surgery’ (Professor Hyun Hoon Chung of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology), ‘Cardiopulmonary resuscitation using robot manipulator’ (Professor Woon Yong Kwon of Department of Emergency Medicine), and ‘Automatic external defibrillator delivery using unmanned vehicle transport technology’ (Professor Ki Hong Kim of SNU Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine).

Presentations from SNU College of Engineering included a special lecture by engineering graduate entrepreneur (Professor Heui Jae Pahk of SNU Department of Mechanical Engineering), which was followed by presentations with titles including: ‘Proposal for novel biological imaging and simultaneous therapy technology’(Professor Sang-Koog Kim of SNU Department of Materials Science and Engineering), ‘Machine learning powered MRI reconstruction’(Professor Jongho Lee of SNU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), ‘Real-time non-invasive measurement of arterial blood pressure with contact-type pressure sensors’(Professor Jongmo Seo of SNU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), and ‘Semiconductor technology for high-accuracy sensors in medical devices’(Professor Suhwan Kim of SNU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering).

The chair of this forum, College of Engineering Dean Kook Heon, revealed, “This forum has been a meaningful event for active and professional academic exchange on various topics. This will motivate further development in medical service with collaborative research between engineering and medical technology.”
