Professor Sung June Kim, A gathering and concert for cochlear implant users and students of SNU College of Engineering who study this technology

On November 17th, 2018, for four hours from 10 am to 2 pm, there was an event held in the auditorium B103 of building 39 of SNU College of Engineering. Students enrolled in the graduate course ‘Neural Prosthesis’ of electrical and computer engineering invited people who are actually using the technologies they study to exchange knowledge and information and to encourage each other. The event included a discussion session and a concert with performers from the department of Korean music of College of Music, and was sponsored by the Social Contribution Center of SNU.
Cochlear implant is an electronic surgical implant for people with severe hearing disabilities. It is possible to provide a level of hearing that allows everyday conversations, but much more research is needed for hearing natural sounds especially music. A total of 64 people participated in the event including, 24 users of cochlear implant (Cochlear Implant Users Group of Korea), 24 students of College of Engineering, 9 musicians from SNU College of Music and Department of Korean Music in Korea National University of Arts, and 7 invited guests.
