At the Society for Information Display (SID) Display Week 2018 Exhibition, where experts in the field of display come together, domestic small and medium-sized companies and startups showed off their cutting-edge display technology. They proved that the next generation market led by OLED and AR/VR technology was not far away.
The Display Week 2018 Exhibition presented by SID took place at the convention center in Los Angeles, the United States, from the 22nd to 24th of May. At the exhibition, Miraenanotech, SNU, Raontech, and A&I demonstrated their products and technologies. Miraenanotech, SNU, and Raontech opened up their individual booths in the I-Zone prepared for startups and competed with universities and startups from all around the world.
SID selects university laboratories, startups, and small and medium-sized companies to give a chance to promote their new technologies and prototypes. I-zone receives a lot of attention every year as much as other regular exhibitions since it is filled with emerging technologies with fresh ideas.
Miraenanotech and SNU presented a six-inch metal mesh sensor that has both force sensing and multi-touch functions. This technology was co-developed as part of a government-funded project. It is distinguished for integrating force sensing and multi-touch modules into a single module which was usually implemented separately. This allows thinner module design and lower production cost.
SNU professor Yongtaek Hong, who led this research project, said, “After finishing the government project, we are aiming for commercialization with Miraenanotech targeting domestic and overseas companies.
Raontech introduced a high-resolution microdisplay solution based on Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS), which is a display on top of a silicon wafer, for AR/VR. They are different from other microdisplay manufacturers for providing controllers and optical engine modules as well as the panel itself emphasizing their strength in system semiconductors.
Raontech promoted their 0.7-inch WQHD resolution microdisplay ‘RDP700Q’, RDP series in different sizes and resolutions, and the optical engine module ‘R-Vista70’.
Boeun Kim, CEO of Raontech, said, “The LCoS method can provide high resolution and outdoor visibility making it suitable for not only VRs but also AR machines. There will be a gradual increase in full HD resolution products in the AR market also.”
A&I displayed their color analyzers for measuring OLEDs, ‘CM-H600’ and ‘CM-T600’, which they developed solely relying on their own technology for over 7 years. The strength of the technology is with the high color accuracy even under low-luminance conditions. The company is targeting further market expansion after successful shipments to small and medium-sized global OLED manufacturers.
