Professor Byonghyo Shim, Ph.D. Hyoungju Ji

The research team consisting of SNU ECE Professor Byonghyo Shim (corresponding author) and Samsung Electronics Researcher Hyoungju Ji (1st author, 2019 Ph.D. graduate of our department) was selected as the recipient of the Asia Pacific Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE COMSOC (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Communications Society). The award ceremony will be held at the Globecom conference held in Madrid, Spain in December, 2021.

The co-research team of Professor Shim and the researcher at Samsung Electronics proposed methods for packet transfer and frame structure and scheduling used for packet ultra-reliable and low latency communication (URLLC) in a paper published on IEEE Wireless Communications. The results affected the standardization and commercialization of the initial standards for 5G, Rel. 15 and Rel. 16. The paper was selected as the Popular Article of IEEE Communications Society and has been cited more than 300 times.
