Professor Kyuseok Shim inaugurated as the chairman of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers. (iNews, 2022.01.27)
Kyuseok Shim, a professor at the SNU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was selected as the 37th chairman of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers.

The Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers announced that Professor Shim took office on the 1st of January and will lead the institute for one year.
Kyuseok Shim graduated from SNU ECE (Bachelor), and from the University of Maryland Department of Computer Science (Master/Doctor), and worked for the US Federal Reserve Board, IBM, Bell Labs, and Microsoft. After working as an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at KAIST, he has been a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at SNU since 2002.
Papers on data mining and database fields that he has published recorded a total of more than 20,000 citations. In 2013, he was elected as a member of ACM, which is the most authoritative society in the field of computer sciences. In 2019, he was elected as a member of IEEE.
Professor Shim said, “We will continuously maintain the existing projects of various academic societies, and respect the autonomy of individual research societies as much as possible to suit each society’s characteristics. Research activities will become more active, and the participation of young members and female members will be encouraged to take initiative.”
Established in 1973, the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers is an academic organization representing the ‘computer and software field’ in Korea, with a total of 34,000 members, including 3,500 university professors nationwide.
