[ECE Department] ECE won multiple awards, including the Special Award for the Most Awards in the University Division at the 31st Samsung HumanTech Paper Awards

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University's College of Engineering (Department Chair: Professor Yongtaek Hong) won multiple awards, including the Special Award and the Grand Prize in the university category at the 31st Samsung Human-Tech Paper Award. This event was hosted by Samsung Electronics and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT and The JoongAng.
In particular, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering received a total of 11 paper awards, including one Grand Prize and two Gold Prizes, from the research labs of Professors Byonghyo Shim, Jaehyuk Choi, Jongho Lee S, Sewoong Park, and Kyunghan Lee. As a result, the department was once again awarded the "Most Award-Winning Department in the University Category” special prize, following last year's achievement. Additionally, the "Most Paper Submissions by an Advising Professor" special prize was awarded to Professor Jongho Lee S of the same department.
Among the individual awards granted in 10 categories in the university division, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering won the Grand Prize (prize money of 40 million KRW), which is awarded to the best paper among all categories, and the Gold Prize in the Circuit Design category and the Signal Processing category (prize money of 20 million KRW each), thereby demonstrating the best performance in both quality and quantity.
Student Jihoon Moon (advisor: Professor Byonghyo Shim) was honored with the Gold Prize in the Communication and Networks category and the Grand Prize across all categories for developing a millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive MIMO system channel prediction technique utilizing multi-modal sensing.
In the Circuit Design category, student Jaeho Kim (advisor: Professor Jaehyuk Choi, co-authors: Myungho Han, Dr. Jueun Bang) won the Gold Prize for developing a new Command-Aware power regulation circuit that ensures the integrity of ultra-high-density I/O signals even at high-speed operation with minimal additional power consumption by leveraging the operational characteristics of HBM memory interfaces.
In the Signal Processing category, student Jihwan Kim (advisor: Professor Bohyung Han, co-authors: Junho Kang, Jinyoung Choi) won the Gold Prize for proposing the innovative FIFO-Diffusion technique, which enables the generation of infinitely long videos using video generation models, models which previously could only produce short videos.
Additionally, students Juhun Shin (advisor: Professor Sewoong Park), Jonghyun Ko (advisor: Professor Jongho S Lee), and Moonjae Chae (advisor: Professor Jae-Hyuk Choi) won the Silver Prize.
Students Jiseong Im (advisor: Professor Jongho S Lee), Joon Hwang (advisor: Professor Jongho Lee S), Sangmok Shin (advisor: Professor Byonghyo Shim), and Daewook Hwang (advisor: Professor Kyunghan Lee) won the Bronze Prize. Joon Hwang also received an Honorable Mention.
The Samsung HumanTech Paper Award was established in 1994 with the aim of discovering young scientists among domestic and international university, graduate, and high school students who will lead 21st-century science and technology. This year marks its 31st edition, with a record 3,152 papers submitted, out of which 116 teams were awarded.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University has consistently produced numerous award winners at the Samsung HumanTech Paper Award each year.
