[ECE Department] Professor Yongtaek Hong awarded National Orders of Science and Merit
[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah] The College of Engineering at Seoul National University announced on the 24th that Professor Choi Hae-cheon (Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering), Professor Hwang Cheol-seong (Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering), and Professor Hong Yong-taek (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering) were awarded with National Orders of Science and Merit by the government in celebration of Science and ICT Day 2025. The Ministry of Science and ICT selects individuals who have contributed to the advancement of science, technology, and information communications each year and awards them with honors such as orders and commendations. Professor Choi Hae-cheon awarded the Order of Science and Technology Innovation for contributions to world-leading turbulent flow prediction technology
Distinguished Professor Haecheon Choi received the Order of Science and Technology Innovation in recognition of his contributions to the development of high-precision turbulent flow prediction technology and the commercialization of bio-inspired, high-efficiency, low-noise fans. He developed turbulence prediction software and distributed it to domestic universities, research institutes, and companies, leading the advancement of fluid dynamics in Korea.
Professor Choi stated, “I will not stop pursuing challenges and innovation for the advancement of science and technology,” and expressed his gratitude to his fellow researchers and students.
Professor Yongtaek Hong leads the field of stretchable electronics… contributed to international standardization of displays
Professor Yongtaek Hong was also awarded the Order of Science and Technology Innovation for his contributions to innovation in stretchable display technology and international standardization efforts. He is a globally recognized authority in flexible display technology and currently serves as the chair of the IEC Technical Committee on Display Technologies for flexible displays.
Professor Hong stated, “I will dedicate myself to developing next-generation display technologies that are difficult for others to replicate,” and expressed his gratitude to his students and family.
Professor Cheolseong Hwang awarded Hwangjo Geunjeong Medal for contributions to semiconductor research and talent cultivation
Distinguished Professor Cheolseong Hwang received the Hwangjo Geunjeong Medal in recognition of his research on DRAM and next-generation memory devices, as well as his contributions to the development of ICT through academia-industry collaboration. He has made outstanding achievements in the semiconductor field, including the publication of 744 SCI-indexed papers and the supervision of over 140 master's and doctoral students.
Professor Hwang said, “I’m honored to have my 27 years of mentoring students at Seoul National University recognized,” and added, “I will continue to do my best in my role as a professor.”
