Professor emeritus Byeong Gi Lee, EBS special <A Talk with the Era (시대와의 대화)>

February 7, 2022l Hit 3830

“I simply added a cobblestone to the tower of information and communication technology.”

He invented one of the digital conversion compression methods of analog signals and developed technology to frame information for optical communication. He was devoted to raising Korea’s academic infrastructure for ICT to an international level and made remarkable contributions to Korea’s emergence as a forerunner in information and communication technology.

In 1997, he became a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as the youngest among domestic scholars. He was the first in the Asian Pacific region to serve as the president of IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), an indication of international recognition for his contributions in ICT.

The above feats were all accomplished by Byeong Gi Lee, information and communication technology engineer and professor emeritus.

A person who has accomplished so much during his 30 years of active phase of life and has returned to his hometown after retirement for his mature phase of life. We are to ask him about how to keep one’s identity while wisely navigating a technology-centered world with its incessant changes.
