KT announced on the 15th  that, in cooperation with Professor Jung-Suek’s lab, they have developed, and successfully tested a miniature antenna technology, RIS.

RIS is a technology that sends signals by attaching an antenna in the shape of a transparent film or a panel on windows or walls. Due to it being able to control the wave transmission rate and the direction of the reflection with low energy inputs, it can be used to enhance the quality of 5G communication at locations unsuitable for the installment of the necessary base stations and other heavy equipment.

KT further delivered the message that the members of the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) expect RIS technology to be one of the wireless technologies of the future.

Jung-Suek Oh, a professor at the department of electrical and computer science, SNU, said, “Through this project, we could develop and test the RIS technology that can extend the coverage area even by arranging and installing the devices in any way with a wireless communications device.”
