Professor Kyung-Mu Lee awarded the ‘3.1 Culture Award’ (The Hankook Ilbo, 2022.01.27)

The 3.1 Cultural Foundation announced on the 27th that they have selected Korea University Emeritus Professor Kyung-Ho Shim, Harvard University medical school professor Kwang-Soo Kim, Seoul National University professor Kyung-Mu Lee, and photographer Bon-Chang Koo as the recipients of the 63d 3.1 Culture Award. The recipients will receive a plaque, an insignia, and prize money of 100 million won. The awards ceremony will be held on the 1st of March at 10 am at the Grand Ballroom o the Westin Chosun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Emeritus Professor Shim contributed to the study of fundamental Chinese literature, and Professor Kim developed the world’s first successful treatment using induced pluripotent stem cells. They were recognized for their achievements in their respective fields, and were selected as awardees of the humanities-social sciences award and natural sciences awards respectively. Professor Kyung-Mu Lee, who applied a new deep-learning algorithm to a visual intelligence problem, was evaluated highly for his achievements in the field of engineering, and was awarded the engineering award. Photographer Koo, who performed experimental artwork activities, was honored with the art award for pioneering photography as a new genre of modern art.
