Merck Korea nominated Jae-Kyung Jung, professor at Hanyang University, and Jeong-Hun Kwak, professor at SNU for the Merck Award and the Young Scientist Award.

To recognize outstanding scientific achievements in the field of display technology, Merck created the Merck Award in 2004, the year being the 100th anniversary of Merck's liquid crystal research. The award was established by the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID). IMID will take place at BEXCO, Busan until the 25th.

Professor Jung played a pivotal role by academically elucidating the cause of electrical reliability degradation, a critical issue in the mass production of oxide thin-film transistors (TFT), thereby contributing to the mass production of active matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) products.

Professor Kwak was acknowledged for his pioneering development of the inverted quantum-dot light-emitting diode (QLED) structure, which significantly improved QLED efficiency and lifespan.
