< Gwanaksa Dorm> 2012 Application for \"Graduate students\"
This is the application guideline for All graduatestudnet(including freshman,returing student) and research student of S.N.U Gwanak campus in 2012.
Undergraduate students should refer to other notices.
****Even if you are currently living at dormitory, you have to apply the dormitory for 2012 as follow procedures.
**** Every student has to apply it by oneself (Including KGSP students, exchange stduent 2011)

1. Application Qualification:
1) Qualification:
① All International graduate students and full time research students who will be enrolled in S.N.U Gwanak campus in 2012 spring semester.
② Who is Full-time Research Students:
- Students who stay at Gwanak campus at least 5 days a week without any other occupation for submitting their thesis after completing the coursework and can be verified by S.N.U.
- A research student should be registered as a research student as of 2012, March. Otherwise it results in eviction.
- When enrolling, a full time research student should summit the certificate of research student provided by Gwanaksa.
-The research students will be lastly selected as Gwanaksa residents.
2) Application and enrollment will be restricted in the following case:
① Insufficiency of accumulative GPA
- At least 2.0 of GPA ,
- Grades of 2011 fall semester and winter session will not be included
- If only taking “Thesis research” class which has no score, the students are not eligible for this application.
- Those who have no GPA such as exchange student and freshmen, can apply the dormitory without GPA
② Contagious disease carriers
③ Students who are restricted of residence due to penalty from Gwanaksa (Resident Limitation and penalty of more than 6 points)
④ Students who will not study in Gwanak campus in 2012 spring semester (Including students on leave of absence, non- full time research students, and medical college students)
⑤ Students who are judged to be inapt for living in by the Dean of Gwanaksa
※ Students who have extreme difficulties in commuting to the campus due to physical handicap are prioritized as dormitory residents.
2. Application
1) Period: 12, December (Mon), 2011 10:00 ~ 16, December (Fri), 2011 18:00
2) All applicants should apply according to the school record of 2012 spring semester. For example, if an applicant upgrades from a master to a doctor students, he/she should apply as a doctor student.
3) How to apply: Online application.
① Visit Gwanaksa Homepage and Click the banner “온라인 입사 신청” or “On-Line Application for GAS”
4) Information of the Residence Term Guarantee Policy for Current residents.
① What is the “Residence Term Guarantee”;
This is the policy of providing a priority for twin room in 2012 application to current residents 2011. (It means that if you are currently living at Gwanaksa 2011, you will be given priority for twin room in 2012 selection.)
② Who is eligible for the Residence Term Guarantee;
Those students who apply for only twin room in 2012 application among current residents 2011.
③ How to apply; Students who qualify the above condition (②) should do the following:
** When filling the application form, applicants should click the “Residence Term Guarantee” box.
- If an applicant doesn’t check the box “Residence Term Guarantee”, the applicant will lose their priority, which means, you will have the same probability of getting accepted as a new applicants.
- There is no residence guarantee policy for single room. Single room will be randomly assigned and PHD applicants are given priority over Master applicants and research students.
- When applying for the “Residence Term Guarantee Policy”, the applicants can NOT choose the room types, as only twin room in the New Graduate Dormitory will be provided. So if you want to apply single room, do not click the box “Residence Term Guarantee”.
④ The maximum period of Residence guarantee.
- 2012 New residents; Masters candidate 4 semesters, PhD candidate 8 semesters.(Total residence period as a research student cannot exceed one semester for students in a master’s program and 4 semesters for students in a doctoral program)
- 2011 new residents; Masters Candidate 6 semesters, PhD candidate 10 semesters.(Total residence period as a research student cannot exceed two semesters for students in a master’s program and 6 semester for students in a doctoral program)
- 2010 fall semester new residents; Masters Candidate 6 semesters, PhD candidate 10 semesters. (Total residence period as a research student cannot exceed two semesters for students in a master’s program and 6 semesters for students in a doctoral program.)
⑤ Others.
- The minimum unit of the residence is “Semester”; for example, even if a resident stays for just a month during a semester, the whole semester would be treated as his/her period of stay.
- If a student upgrades from Masters to Doctoral course, stay-duration will be applied newly and the previous stay-duration will be disappeared.
- It doesn’t need to stay continuously, and even if you check-out in the middle of semester, the whole duration of stay will be counted.
- The whole duration of stay also include duration of single-room stay.
- Although maximum period of residence guarantee is over, it is possible to apply the dormitory.
3. Free Medical Check-up
1) Period:
-undergraduate: 2011. 12. 6(Tues) ~ 12. 7(Wed)
- graduate : 2011. 12. 8(Thur) ~ 12. 9(Fri)
2) Place: There will be a bus for examination at the in front of Bldg.900.
3) If you take the medical check-up during this above period, you do not necessary to bring the medical result in document when you enroll Gwanaksa. However, some result cannot be delivered to Gwanaksa. In this case, we will require your date of medical check-up. thus please leave a memo on your medical check-up date.
4) If you miss the above medical check-up period, you have to submit your medical certificate when you enroll in Gwanaksa.
4. Announcement of the result and waiting number
1) Date: 26 Dec 2011(Mon), 11:00, Gwanaksa website.
2) The unaccepted applicants will get waiting number which is valid until spring semester of 2012.
5. Optional choice for Accepted students.
- Apply for “Movement”, “Roommate Selection” and “Life pattern”-
1) Period: 26, December, Monday, 11:00 ~ 30, December, Friday, 18:00
- These three options are only available for accepted students of Gwanaksa on 26, Dec. Unaccepted students who get waiting number or undergraduate freshmen are not available for those services.
2) How to apply
① Movement Selection: if you want to live at same room which you currently lived in 2011,
then clicking the “movement selection”. Otherwise your room will be changed.
② Roommate Selection:
-Both applicants should be successfully accepted and apply the roommate choice.
-If one of roommate doesn’t apply it or fail to the fill in the roommate information, your roommate will be randomly assigned.
③ Life Pattern Selection:
- Click your life pattern.
- Please remember that life pattern cannot be matched 100%. Therefore, your roommate may have different life pattern.
④ Women Residential Building 901 (this is only for female students):
- Click “Only Residential Building”, then you will be assigned to Bldg.901.
- If you are currently living in Bldg.901, just click “Movement selection”. If you just click “Woman Only Residential Building”, you can be assigned to another room in Bldg.901.
3) Detailed information will be delivered with the announcement of the result on 26, Dec.
6. Enrollment
1) Period: 2012, 09 January, Monday ~ 2012, 18, January, Wednesday, 10:00 ~ 17:00
2) Enrollment procedure includes both Submitting Documents and Paying the Gwanaksa Bill; if you fail to finish one of them, Gwanaksa systemically rearrange your reserved room to waiting candidates. Thus, even if you get the admitted, you will lose the entrance rights if you do not submit required documents and pay the housing fee.
3) Detailed information will be delivered with the announcement of the result on 26, December.
7. Additional Information
1) Extra Announcements of additionally accepted candidate:
1st : 2012, 20, January, Friday, 11:00
2nd : 2012, 06, February, Monday, 11:00
3rd : 2012, 20, February, Monday, 11:00
※ From 4th Round: Every Monday 11:00
2) Check Gwanaksa website frequently. Gwanaksa do not contact the candidates about the result personally. Students have to check the result by themselves through our website.
3) If there is any false statement in the application documents (including identity, GPA, address, etc.), you will be asked to move out.
4) If the student’s school status is changed by leave of absence, completion or graduation, the person should check out voluntarily. If he/she is exposed, he/she will be expelled.(If you become research student, you have to submit the certificate of research student)
5) The residence period is a year from 01 March 2012. Dormitory fee have to be paid monthly.
6) When it comes to combined master and doctorate program students, Gwanaksa regards the starting of doctoral course from the 5th semester, because the school records change at the 5th semester from master to doctor categories.
7) When the applicants apply for a single room, they will be randomly assigned to Building 918 or the new graduate dormitory.
8) If you apply for ‘Double Application’, you will get two waiting number, one is for single room, and the other is for twin room. However, you should enroll the room which is firstly available. For example, you can’t wait for a single room when you get the admission of a twin room.
