Korean Language Class for Engineering Students
Korean Language Class for Engineering Students
Fall 2014
Dear International Students!
Welcome to the College of Engineering at SNU, and welcome to Korea! We are very happy to have you at our college, contributing to a growing international community on our campus and bringing in valuable expertise and ideas from abroad.
Life is not always easy forinternational students; you are facing a different culture and a new language during your stay at SNU. Especially in the beginning you probably have lots of questions related to your studies at SNU and to yourprivate life in Korea: how do I sign up (and cancel) classes, where can I get health insurance, how do I tell the taxi driver to drive me home, and where can I find a cheap room?
The Korean Language Class for International Students of the College of Engineering has been designed to take the edge off the most urgent problems you are expected to face during the first few months here at SNU. In the class, you will both learn survival Korean and be introduced to Korean culture and customs. In addition, the class is also a great opportunity to meet and make friends with other international students and to get to know our excellent staff in charge of international affairs at the College of Engineering.
The class takes place twice a week for ten weeks (September 22 to November 27, 2014) on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 9pm. Participation is voluntary; we hope that manyof you will take this opportunity and invest a little time to get to know this great country, its language, people and customs, and the procedures at SNU a bit better.
This fall we plan to offer an intermediate level class for students who attended the beginner level in spring or know the Korean alphabet and have limited Korean skills. This class willonly be offered if there are enough participants; it is there fore important that you indicate the level of the class you would like to attend on your application form.
* Please note that the class information(dates and the classroom) attached is for beginner class. More information about the intermediate level will be notified very soon. If you want to take the intermediate level, though, please submit the application form by deadline.
You can sign up for the class by filling out the attached application form and returning it to Ms. Heesun Kim by email (kavkr@snu.ac.kr) or in person (room 212, building 39, tel: 02-880-8079). The class is free if you attend at least 80% of the lectures;otherwise the small sign-up fee will be used to cover expenses for the class. If you are not able to pay the fee please let Ms. Kim know so that we can find an individual solution.
Once again, welcome to the College of Engineering, and we hope to see you all on September22nd.
