Seminar Title: Display Solution Technologies for IT and TV Applications

Seminar Abstract:
  Nowadays, Ultra High Definition (UHD) TVs and flagship smartphones with WQHD display are becoming main products in the market. As the resolution and color depth of displays expand for better viewing experience, the data rate of display interface increases under longer signal channels. Innovative image data processing technologies are also required for realistic-looking and vivid display with wider range of colors, deep contrast and extended brightness.
  This lecture is composed of four parts. The first part will introduce display devices such as LCD and OLED for TV and IT electronics, including how display operates. The second part will explain display chipset solutions like a timing controller and source drivers. The third part will be devoted to high speed serial interface for image data transfer from a timing controller to source drivers. The last part will present image processing technologies such as image enhancement technologies, up-scaler and sub-pixel rendering for better viewing experience.

Lecturer:
  Dr. Jae-Youl Lee is a Master of System LSI Business, Samsung Electronics. His background is based on the high speed serial interface for display applications. He was the Far-East regional sub-committee Chair of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in 2014.
  He received his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea, in 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he was with a DRAM design group at Hynix Semiconductor and designed a family of SDRAMs. In 2003, he was a research professor at KAIST, where he worked on the digital hearing aids and charge pump circuits. He joined Samsung Electronics, Korea, and has led developments of high-speed serial interfaces for display driver ICs from 2004.
