836. The Role of Control, Optimization and Data in Cyber-Physical Systems

Abstract:
The emerging concept of cyber-physical systems (CPS) refers to networks of physical subsystems, each of which has sensing, communication and computing capabilities. There are various examples of CPS, ranging from modern infrastructures, such as the power grids and transportation systems, to supply chain and robotic networks. This talk will introduce research trends and challenges in CPS with emphasis on the role of control, optimization and data in improving the performance, reliability and resilience of CPS. I will also present data-driven control and optimization tools for CPS, and claim that the fundamental understanding of problem structures can dramatically simplify solution methods.
