Abstract:
Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) have been widely accepted as innovative and high-performance display technology in recent years. The growing number of high-end consumer electronics, such as smart phones, smart watches and TVs, has chosen OLEDs over liquid crystal displays (LCD) as their display components. This is because not only do OLEDs have superior luminescent performance as light sources, but also have the unique and free form factor, enabling the unprecedented applications with foldable, rollable, or stretchable characteristics. To understand how OLEDs have evolved into such promising display technology, the brief history and working principle of the OLEDs will be introduced. Also, technological challenges and the prospect for the future of the OLEDs will be discussed.
