 Abstract:

  Over the past few years, the volume and frequency of new cyber threats and variants targeting both the private and public sectors have exploded and become critical concerns. A staggering number of cybercrimes that evade existing security measures have complicated workflows and involved multiple criminals and organizations.

  The first part of the talk will overview the problems of information assurance (IA) and the principles to address these problems, especially the security of information on computers and networks. Also, the talk will briefly focus on security mechanisms as well as risk management aspects.

  The second part of the talk will discuss threat analysis and intelligence discovery that support holistic threat intelligence analytics (TIA) on data collected from heterogeneous sources, such as malware, underground social networks, cryptocurrency transaction records, etc. The goal of TIA is to provide both the private and public sectors with a trusted platform, where all stakeholders can safely share their collected threat evidence data through structured specification and protocols, and obtain multi-dimensional threat intelligence generated from TIA. The talk will also highlight how security challenges can be articulated by the advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

Biography:

  Gail-Joon Ahn, Ph.D, IEEE Fellow is an Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics. Also, he is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and a Senior Advisor of Center for Cybersecurity and Trusted Foundations at Arizona State University. (https://cybersecurity.asu.edu) 

  His research foci include information and systems security. His research has been supported by National Science Foundation, National Security Agency, Army Research Office, Office of Naval Research, Department of Justice, Bank of America, CISCO, Freeport McMoRan, GoDaddy, Hewlett Packard, Google, Microsoft and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is a recipient of US Department of Energy Early CAREER Principal Investigator Award and Educator of the Year Award from Federal Information Systems Security Educators' Association (FISSEA).  Also, he served as Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Information and Systems Security and Editorial Board of Computers & Security.
