Abstract:
The science of control, robotics, and systems is undeniably a fundamental contributor to the success of Korea's electronics and automotive industries. These industries have experienced remarkable growth powered by the revolutionizing automation processes with both precision and efficiency. This seminar will explore how control, robotics, and systems sciences have played a pivotal role in advancing these industrial sectors. Specifically, it will show how cutting-edge university scientific research can be applied to the real-world electronics and semiconductor industries. Additionally, the seminar will discuss current and future global market trends, along with opportunities for young scholars and engineers.
Biography:
Dongil “Dan” Cho received B.S.M.E. from CMU in 1980, M.S. from MIT in 1984, and Ph.D. from MIT in 1988. From 1987 to 1993, he was Assistant Professor in MAE at Princeton University. From 1993 to 2023, he was Professor in ECE at SNU. Since 2023, he is the CSO of RS Automation, Inc.
His research interests include control, robotics, mechatronics, MEMS, sensors, and quantum technologies. He has published over 150 international journal articles and holds more than 150 patents.
He served as the President of the Institute of Control, Robotics, and Systems (ICROS) in 2017. Currently, he is the President of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), a position he will hold until 2026.
